About the EX Controller

The EX Controller is an embedded platform with built-in digital and analog telephony capability. It combines the virtual capability of MiVoice Business with SIP Gateway capabilities. The MiVoice Business Virtual instance runs on a Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) environment on the EX Controller. The EX Controller provides a virtual operating environment to run the MiVoice Business Virtual instance, which communicates with the SIP Gateway using the SIP protocol. The SIP Gateway turns the analog and TDM devices into SIP trunks making the devices accessible to most PBX systems. The SIP Gateway acts as a bridge between analog and digital trunks, and PBX.

The EX Controller supports up to 1400 IP users. The EX Controller has a total of eight slots and supports :

A maximum of three x86 cores are available for the virtual environment:

Programming

To program the EX Controller, follow the same procedures as those used to set up a system. In addition, you must program the analog sets and trunks that are supported by the EX Controller.

To set up your system:

  1. Connect the EX Controller and deploy using the EX Controller Deployment Tool.

  2. Use the Mitel Integrated Configuration Wizard to perform initial system setup and user commissioning.

NOTE: If you want to reuse the Deployment Tool after running the Mitel Integrated Configuration Wizard, you must enable the SNMP V2 protocol and specify the Admin public access in the EX Controller Web GUI. For more information, refer to the DGW Software Configuration Guide at https://documentation.media5corp.com/.

  1. Select Licenses and Option Selection.

  2. Program the Enterprise Gateways form . If the trunk settings need to be changed, navigate to the Gateway Trunk Descriptors form and modify the relevant gateway trunks of the EX Controller.

  3. (Optional) Navigate to the Gateway Trunk Profiles form to modify the settings if required.

  4. Program the Gateway Trunks form .

  5. (Optional) Navigate to the  Gateway Sets form to map the gateway trunk profile if a new gateway trunk profile is added.

NOTE: By default, all the trunks are mapped to the default profile for a trunk type.

  1. (Optional) Navigate to the Gateway Configuration Scripts form and execute the required configuration files to perform specific configuration on the SIP Gateway.

  1. (Optional) Navigate to the Gateway Trunk Descriptors form, and click Auto Sense Isdn button (see Isdn Sensing).
